The purpose of this case report is to analyze the relationship between musculoskeletal injuries in the back associated with patient handling activities in the nursing staff of the San Ignacio University Hospital during the 2016 period. To do this, the level of risk of exposure was determined using the MAPO method (by its initials in Spanish) - Assistance Mobilization of Hospitalized Patients-. This tool analyzes factors of working conditions that influence the likelihood of occurrence of osteomuscular accidents in nursing staff, allowing make decisions of preventive type, engineering or administrative to reduce accident and absenteeism rates. The research also considered sociodemographic information and the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries presented during the 2016 period, for which a survey was carried out on 350 employees of the HUSI nursing service, where information was taken such as the duration of the working day, age, gender, accidents that occurred and the tasks they perform with mobilization of patients. The results obtained allowed the health at work and safety area of the HUSI, developing strategies that significantly reduced the number of accidents in the back of its healthcare personnel.
