Personal finance is the area of finance that deals with the management, care and growth of monetary resources of individuals or family groups, to facilitate decision making in terms of expenses, investments, savings and budgets over time, taking into account risk factors, plans and future events. Training students in this area is a fundamental part of the educational process, in which universities have a relevant role, given that good practices and financial education have a direct impact on the well-being and quality of life of students. The objective of this research is to diagnose the knowledge and financial habits of the students of professional programs of University Institution Esumer, for which a survey was applied into four sections, each of which evaluated different personal finance aspects in students. In general, participants take advantage and distribute their financial income in an acceptable manner, however, their theoretical knowledge of personal finance is basic. In this way, the need of strengthen the knowledge and habits of students is evident, through the creation and implementation of a personal finance course.
