In the last 10 years, the transnational cultural expansion of South Korea, which seeks to create relations with this region, has also generated a growing interest in learning the Korean language. However, most of the available materials in the publishing market are not written in Spanish. This situation makes it difficult for the students to access to the knowledge of the Asian language and its culture. Due to the complexity of the Korean language, it requires particular guides that help the student to move forward clearly in their learning process. This research is based on the following theoretical support: material design, language learning and Korean language. Based on the methodological step framework for material design proposed by Jolly and Bolitho (2011) and executing this proposal on a needs analysis accomplished with students of the Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of Modern Languages in the Pontifical Xaverian University in Bogota, we elaborated the Korean language material for Spanish speakers called ‘iHola, Corea!’ The book, framed in the fundamental principles of the communicative approach (proposed by different authors related to functional linguistics, sociolinguistics and pragmatics in the 1960s) and framed in the natural approach (Krashen y Terrell, 1983), represents an innovative contribution for foreign language teaching in the context of this university due to the lack of proposals focused on Korean as a Foreign Language in this institution. Furthermore, this material seeks to be the beginning of future research on Asian languages teaching and learning.
