This degree work aims to publicize the dynamics of internationalization of the prioritized municipalities in the Department of Risaralda during the period 2012- 2015, it is developed in four stages: the first refers to the search, selection and review of documents related with the subject of study, research methods, as well as relevant and consistent to be inquired into theory, the second stage determines the selection criteria of municipalities that will be studied, the third stage is the application of the instrument to our case is a semi-structured interview validated by experts and applied to some players in the prioritized municipalities and the fourth stage refers to the proposed classification of local governments according to the analysis in the previous three stages. The study results support the conclusion that the main gap is presented for the internationalization of local governments is the lack of political will and allocation of resources to implement actions that promote their territories to the outside and thus acquire external resources programs and projects that can contribute to local development and increased competitiveness.
