El inglés en la zona rural de Colombia : aplicación del modelo Working with people, del método Content-based y de los ambientes de aprendizaje en la clase de lengua extranjera en Subia, Cundinamarca
In Colombia the access to education is established as a right by the government in the Colombian’s constitution of 1991. Unfortunately, education in Colombia faces diverse problems, among them the low quality of education especially in English teaching in rural areas, which represent the 84,7% of the country. Due to this situation the Ministry of National Education in Colombia has developed several programs to ameliorate the level of English. Numerous investigations have been made about the principal characteristics of rural environments and the role of a foreign language English in the countryside. As a result, this research focuses on the effects of the academic environments in the English classes. In addition, this investigation is concerned with English teaching by contents related with social reality; this method is called content-based. Furthermore, this project takes some principles from the Working with People model to propose an activity. The qualitative method was chosen for this research in order to collect relevant information about the specific context and the participants. Also, this investigation had four stages: the first one was called diagnostic of the context, the second one corresponds to the design of an activity, the third stage consists on the application of an activity, and the four one is the final analysis of the information gathered through the research. In such a way, this investigation used three methods of data collection: observation (videos), interviews and informal notes. Along the chapters of results and conclusions, the main findings are mentioned and described thanks to the collected information. “Sustainable Drip Irrigation for Plants” was the developed activity. Those findings are organised by the principal topics of this investigation: academic environments, content based-method and Working with People model.
