Sitophilus oryzae L. Es una de las especies de mayor relevancia economica presentandose como la plaga mas importante de granos almacenados a nivel mundial. Ha cobrado relevancia por su capacidad destructiva y es considerada la mas destructivas en el cultivo de, arroz, maiz y en granos de trigo. Los adultos se alimentan principalmente en el endospermo, mientras que las larvas preferencialmente se alimentan en el germen del grano y le disminuyen un gran porcentaje de las proteinas y vitaminas. Las hembras de este insecto, no marcan el grano donde ellas han puesto sus huevos; por consiguiente, ellas son incapaces de reconocer la presencia de huevos. El desarrollo de este insecto esta organizado de tres a cuatro instares, requiere un promedio de 18 dias para el desarrollo. La fase del pupal requiere un promedio de 6 dias (el rango 3 a 9) y en la transformacion, el insecto adulto permanecera dentro del grano durante 3 a 4 dias hasta que se endurece y madura numerosas alternativas se utilizan en el control de esta plaga. It is one of the species of more economic relevance presented as the most important plague in grains stored at world level. It is considered the most destructive in the cultivation of rice, corn and in wheat grains. The adults feed mainly in the endosperm, while the larva feed preferably in the germ of the grain and they remove a great percentage of the proteins and vitamins. The females of this insect don't mark the grain where they have put their eggs; consequently, they are unable to recognize the presence of eggs. The development of this insect is organized in three or four instars; it requires an average of 18 days for the development. The phase of the pupal requires an average of 6 days (the range 3 at 9) and in the transformation, the mature insect will remain inside the grain during 3 to 4 days until it becomes hard and matures.
