The purpose of this study was to characterize the nutritional status of adolescents from 9 to 18 years old, in three public educational institutions of Bogota, by means of anthropometry (weight, height, abdominal circumference, arm circumference, BMI and percentage of fat), and describe the frequency of food consumption. The study population consisted of 275 adolescents. The results showed a greater prevalence of malnutrition due to deficit than excess, where 23.1% of the population between the ages of 16 and 18 years old presented risk of delay in height. In the age ranges of 9 to 12 years and 16 to 18 years, 30.3% and 30.8% presented a risk of thinness. Abdominal obesity between 9 and 18 years was 5.7%. Regarding the circumference of the arm, adolescents in the three age groups presented 8.4% depletion and 5.0% excess, where 48.4% had normal fat reserves and 51.6% had normal muscle reserve. The fat component was higher at older age. In the consumption of foods, it was highlighted the higher daily intake of the groups of cereals and derivatives, followed by sweets and sweets (2 to 3 times a day). Weekly the group of meats and derivatives (5 to 6 times a week), fruits and vegetables, dairy products and derivatives (2 to 4 times a week). White rice being the main food in the diet of the population with 38%, followed by pasta with 31% and banana with 28%.
