Various types of investment exist in the capital market, among which fixed income, variable income, and foreign exchange and derivatives stand out, among others. Each of these has its own characteristics that distinguish it from the other forms of investment—either for the risk it poses to the investor or for the yield that it returns. Investment in variable income provides little to no assurance of future payment, making it a form of investment with much higher levels of risk compared to other kinds of investment that offer returns on the value that can be evaluated in advance. This higher level of risk requires the investor to implement investment strategies that permit certain acceptable levels of risk based on the investment profile. One such strategy is technical analysis, which utilizes a series of mathematical and graphical tools to provide the investors with guidance regarding the possible future behavior of financial assets. Thus, in addition to serving as a risk management tool, technical analysis offers the possibility of achieving higher returns than those of investors in the market who use other investment strategies.
