The study focuses on how to develop cognitive-linguistic skills (describe, explain and argue) in the 5th grade students of the Jorge Isaacs Educational Institution, Carlos A. Sardi Garces, municipality of El Cerrito (V), through the production of different textual typologies in the Social Sciences class. This study had a qualitative-descriptive approach, with the design and implementation of the teaching unit. As information gathering techniques, the entry and exit questionnaires and the workshops that complemented the didactic unit were used. The information obtained was analyzed from a perspective of comprehension - interpretation of the cognitive linguistic skills. As a result, students showed the development of cognitive-linguistic abilities at different levels of complexity through the production of coherent descriptive texts referring to the object of the description, explanatory texts with arguments that established some causal relationships and texts with a basic argumentative structure.
