THE MOSCOVICI´S THEORY OF SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS: NOTIONS, CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS Abstract This text is part of the theoretical foundation of the PhD. thesis: “Research in the faculties of education in Bogota: social representations of the professors”. Its purpose is to establish a better understanding of the notion of social representations developed by Sergei Moscovici and the school developed after him during the last 50 years. To achieve this purpose, by developing and using the dissection-construction knowledge chart, the thesis works with a hypothesis that includes complexity, in such a way that instead of difficulting comprehension, takes us by hand, and despite of the large amount of elements to consider (and also precisely because of this), clarifies the vision of all the elements that compose a “dynamic” concept such as the concept of social representations. It concludes that it is possible to have a better notion of the idea of social representations (SR), reviewing the conceptual works of some of the most expert authors in the subject, without trying to simplify the debate and prefering its natural and, thus, unavoidable complexity.
