This article focuses on the period corresponding to the presidential government of Alfonso Lopez Michelsen (1974-1978) in Colombia, and it studies the relationship between social actors and national government. The main question in this investigation’s: what is the influence of the representations generated through the discourses of the national government on different social actors when they adopted the form of their struggle? To attempt an answer, journalistic sources of the time, Lopez Michelsen’s speeches and secondary sources, elaborated in recent years, regarding socials actor in Colombia were reviewed. The text presents a description of the main moments of social struggle at the time and of some representations of such struggles generated through speeches by the government. It has concluded that the situation that generated the tension between the national government and the social actors was the impossibility to establish a dialog and the inability to achieve agreements, since each party sought a different objective.
