The Hoya del Rio Suarez is located between the departments of Boyaca and Santander, is the most important region in the sector in Colombia. There the production of cana panelera is the main economic activity that develops. Based on this, and the research framework carried out in the municipality of San Jose de Pare, is necessary to characterize the producers of the Hoya del Rio Suarez. Most of the available information is of an institutional nature, derived from studies carried out in the area, using a qualitative exploratory-descriptive approach, backed by a documentary review, finding important characteristics such as: geographical and environmental conditions, forms of productive organization, specific processes of cana cultivation. From the point of view of economic development, it is important that the characteristics of the sector have contributed to the development that has taken place over time.
