Based on geomorphic criteria, a general analysis and classification of Colombian volcanoes is presented. Morphodinamic analysis of volcanic structures and deposits is complemented by secondary sources and selective fieldwork. Basic techniques include standard aerial photo interpretation to detect and evaluate volcanic structures and associated landforms such as craters, lava or pirodastics flows and lahars as well as evaluate the degree of glacial and fluvial erosion of the volcanic structures. These techniques led to the updating of the Colombian Volcano Inventory (Ceballos et al, 1994), including present structure, activity, localization and important characteristics. Classification of volcanic activity in the country resulted in total of 95 reported volcanoes of which 37 were classified as Active either Historical or Latent (dormant) and show clear signs of volcanic activity during the Holocene period. Additionally, this morphodynamic analysis suggests several inconsistencies in previous studies including nonexistent or very old and eroded volcanoes present en older inventories such as Cerro Petacas, La Fragua, Bordoncillo and Mesa Nevada de Herveo.
