El papel de las mujeres en la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional : caso de la asociación de mujeres campesinas de Matanza- ASOCIMUCAM y la asociación de mujeres construyendo futuro-ASOMUCOF
Matanza (Santander) shows relevant data regarding malnutrition, hunger, and poverty, especially in rural areas of the municipality. This sector exposes several particularities as followed: lands are controlled and worked by small owners and their families; masculine and feminine roles play different functions in family, women perform reproductive and productive roles and men only perform productive ones. Therefore, it was proposed to carry out an analytical study in Matanza to analize how women from two different associations (Asociacion de Mujeres Campesinas de Matanza – ASOCIMUCAM, Asociacion Construyendo Futuro - ASOMUCOF) cooperate in food and nutritional security in the municipality. Research results prove that women, related with the associations indicated above, participate in food production, generating monetary and no-monetary incomes for their families, which increases their empowerment in negotiation. As reproductive and community roles, women contribute to the care of family members and their participation is very important as problem solvers by the achievement of resources for community service projects. Hence it is concluded that associated women participate actively in their families’ Food and Nutritional Security, and consequently the communities where they have influences on, as it is clear the contribution these women have on welfare from a productive and communitarian approach.
