The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the public health situation and interpret the health beliefs of the students of the undergraduate academic programs of the Lasallian University Corporation in the year, 2017. Methodology: The study was conducted from the mixed approach, with emphasis on analytical quantitative-empirical, transversal type. The studied population was of 1505 students, with a total sample of 483 students distributed thus, 275 students of 2 to 10 semester, and 190 of first semester with forced inclusion. The characterization data were collected with a structured survey and health beliefs through 3 discussion groups. Results: it was found that university students have risk practices related to food, self-care, sexuality, physical activity and oral health, it was also observed that young people have support networks and strengthened family dynamics, psychoactive substance use practices were found, being the legal ones that are consumed the most; There was a low pregnancy rate in the surveyed population, and a medium use and knowledge of contraceptives. Percentages of sedentary lifestyle were also found. They also found favorable perceptions about health, but there was evidence of a negative self-perception of health and poor adherence to healthy practices. Conclusions: the students participating in the study know the practices of health care in all its aspects, but there is no coherence between what is known and what is practiced, although universities are integral training spaces, articulation is necessary of university welfare programs with academic training processes, this will enhance the applicability of healthy care practices and the promotion of a culture of self-care.
