This qualitative and practical study aimed to identify and describe the teaching and learning strategies that are implemented, and the ones that could be taken more into account, in the Low Intermediate Level of the Bachelor?s degree in Modern Languages at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in order to have a positive effect in the inter and intrapersonal dimensions of the students so they can develop and strengthen their Emotional Intelligence (EI). The study was developed in the second semester of 2017 with 53 of the Low Intermediate Level. The data was collected through class observations, surveys, and semi-structured interviews. It was found that teachers usually choose activities that tend to have a positive impact in the students, and they implement strategies to create an environment of trust and to build a relationship that allows students to feel valued. However, they have to improve their vision of the student as an individual and the selection of materials. In the case of students, they use memory strategies and cognitive strategies, as well as some social and compensation strategies but they lack some metacognitive, affective and other social strategies. The discussion of the results, suggests implementing teacher training to use strategies that contribute to the Emotional Intelligence of students and activities that allow them to develop their emotions in favor of their learning process.
