The objective outlined in the research was to determine the effect of the use of information and communication technologies in the development of mathematical competencies in students of secondary education institutions of the District of Barranquilla Colombia; under the descriptive and inferential methodology, with a quasi-experimental design. The population was 11,263 students and eleventh grade students, generating a sample of 154 of them, forming two groups: control and experimental. The applied instrument contained 20 questions, validated by seven experts, with a reliability of 0.93. The results indicated that the instruction programmed with the TIC, extend the competences of the students in relation to solving mathematical problems
