Reception: November 2, 2016 Accepted: January 26, 2017 Vision of Anahuac is both the author’s reaction to a certain historical circumstance and a reflection on the question of what America is from a literary perspective which includes the following discursive strategies: epigraphs, intertextuality and rhetoric. A complex argumentative process backs up the thesis that Americans of all times are united by the desire to tame nature, and the everyday excitement they experience in the face of it. That is to say, the realms of action and contemplation bind together American history. The current importance of Reyes’ essay lies in that it seeks to persuade to a particular point of view: there is a need to highlight everything that aims to value and defend —or on the other hand, destroy— cultural diversity and natural richness.
