Tendo em vista a importância dos principios de jogo sugeridos pela literatura para formacao de jogadores de futebol e tambem para o processo de ensino/aprendizagem e treinamento da modalidade, este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o nivel de conhecimento declarativo de principios de jogo por parte de jogadores e comparar as diferentes categorias. Participaram da pesquisa 59 atletas, sendo nove da categoria sub-15, vinte e oito da categoria sub-17 e vinte e dois da categoria sub-20 que observaram imagens a eles disponibilizadas para identificar o principio de jogo inserido no contexto da jogada do atleta em destaque na figura. A pesquisa identificou que os jogadores demonstraram baixo conhecimento dos principios de jogo e nao houve diferencas estatisticamente significativas (p>0,05) entre as categorias, nos fazendo perceber que jogadores mais velhos nao mostraram maior conhecimento tatico como sugere a literatura e os principios de jogo citados como importantes podem nao estar sendo observados nos treinamentos sugerindo que novas pesquisas sejam feitas para avaliar o nivel de excelencia de jogadores e a relacao com o conhecimento de principios de jogo. ABSTRACT The declarative knowledge level about tactical principles of game of the football players on the different categories Having in mind the importance of football game principles suggested by literature for preparing football players as well to the teaching/learning process and modality training, this study had as objective to evaluate the declarative knowledge level of principles of game of football players and to compare the different categories. Fifty nine athletes participated of this research, nine of them were from under-15 category, twenty eight from under-17 category and twenty two players from under-20 category, that observed images to identify the game principle shown in the context of the move of athlete highlighted in the picture. The research identified that players revealed low knowledge regarding game principles and there was not statistically significant differences (p>0,05) among categories, allowing to notice that oldest players did not show higher tactical knowledge as it is suggested by literature, and the game standards mentioned as important probably, are not being observed in the trainings, suggesting that new researches to be performed in order to evaluate the excellence level of players and its relationship with knowledge of game tactical principles.
