Abstract:

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic disease characterized by the presence of cognitive symptoms, physical and emotional problems and / or behavioral alterations. Currently over 24 million people worldwide are affected by AD, and it is estimated that by 2040 the number of people present this disease will approach 81 million. The aim of this article is to make a detailed review of the different techniques and / or cognitive treatments that have been used in rehabilitation of cognitive impairment in persons with AD, as well as existing studies evaluating its effectiveness. The main results of the review demonstrate the application of cognitive treatments using techniques such as cognitive stimulation, errorless learning, spaced retrieval, visual imagery, fading tracks and external aid. Most treatments reviewed techniques used in combination, which were implemented in early stages of AD; several of the studies reviewed showed the long-term maintenance of treatment
