One of the pillars of higher education is and will be responding to the demands of today’s world through innovation, meeting the requirements of indicators of measurement of results - quality - which allow the traceability of actions, strategies and commitments with the purpose of accessing these in terms of competitiveness to create a better world. Thus, in the international community, education seen as the internationalization of knowledge leaves behind individual actions, to turn them into global networks that will allow transforming lives, where, higher education is submerged.In this order of ideas, one of the aspects that Colombian higher education must take into account, compared to the quality and traceability demanded by the international community, is the University Social Responsibility (hereinafter RSU) which must respond to the impact that must generate the institutional mission, in which the social actors are involved that allow to fully fulfill such missionality. Reason why the RSU should not be seen as something to be done, and measurable, but as a transversal axis within higher education that allows it to champion processes that serve as an example, not only in the local, but in the regional. The above-mentioned aspects make it possible to demonstrate the need to continue in the ascent by achieving clear guidelines in terms of USW and that this in Colombian higher education, not continue to be an isolated case, but on the contrary to consolidate a training process in the matter with the rigor that the subject demands.
