This article addresses the suspension of the European Union deepening process. In the context of this debate, they have identified many are reasons that could create this phenomenon. Nevertheless, our work will only approach one of them: the adoption of the neoliberal economic model as an integration mechanism. The implementation of this economic model has been focusing the EU tothe mere searching of economic goals, stopping of side the consecution of a political and social integration. At the same time, it breaks with one of the main identity pieces of Europe: the European Social Model. This article also shows, how the intergovernmental logic that prevails into the EU, has not allowed a significant advance towards afederal Europe where the community´s interests prevail over the state´s, and were the search for multidimensional integration is found. With the adoption of the Constitutional Treaty and Lisbon Treaty, the EU was supposedly moving forward a positive integration, this mean, to a project beyond economic calculations. Nevertheless, the study pointed how both treaties have been the expression of the institutionalconsolidation of the neoliberal and intergovernmental character of the EU. The future success of the EU willdepend in the capacity of its rulers and citizens to build a more federal Europe, where is taken as a positiveelement.
