Obesity is a chronic, treatable and preventable disease product of the interaction of genetic, enviromental and psychological factors, acting over intake mediators and energy consumption. This pathology represents an epidemy and a global health problem, positioning Uruguay as the second most obese country in South America, by the World Health Organization. Obesity is a cardiovascular, respiratory, gynecological and rheumatologic risk factor. It is also related to insulin resistance and diabetes mellitus type II, existing an apetite regulation and energetic metabolism disorder, both process that usually are regulated by hormonal components, like leptin and adiponectin.Obesity has been identified as a chronic systemic inflamatory state known as lipoinflamation.With the aforementioned, it is evident the relevance that this pathology has acquired in the last years, through the identification of biochemical mediators that participates in the obesity genesis and developement. In this way, the discovery of key molecules that act as therapeutic targets take relevance, making possible to expand the knowledge about obesity and the future creation of different strategies for its proper approach in medical practice.
