The following documentary research, entitled La imagen en el Album Recuerdos de Campana de Peregrino Rivera Arce, como fuente de significacion historica y cultural, allows to show how the image can be understood as a vestige of the past that provides information to reveal elements of an era that convulsed the country, which are susceptible to several interpretations fields of knowledge, showing the Album as a multidimensional historical document. In order to achieve such a task, the images in the Album were seen as traces of the past whose scenes are closely related between image and text as inseparable codes that lead to a narrative, not continuous and fragmented, from which it was possible to extract clues related to meanings historical and cultural aspects of the moment. In addition, the material culture of objects and the power of images as a means of representing society and political imaginaries, which were related to manuals of tactics and military stories, with uses and functions of the image from the plastic genres of the moment, which were useful to characterize the society in a historical period in which the Nation experienced the tensions between political parties, phenomena of rebellion and armed struggles, united to the vision of progress and processes of modernization of end of the 19th century.
