Depresión y Control Metabólico en Pacientes de Control Rutinario por Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 2. Hospital de 4to nivel de Barranquilla. Abril de 2016 - Abril de 2017.
Introduction: Diabetes and depression are closely related, and depression in turn makes it difficult to find the motivation to take care of diabetes. It is important to consider that type 2 Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects more than 25% of the population in some countries, the increase of the prevalence constitutes a public health problem due to the associated complications. Objective: To characterize Type 2 diabetes mellitus in relation to depression and metabolic control in a 4th level hospital in the city of Barranquilla during the period between April 2016-April 2017. Materials and methods: A descriptive, transversal, retrospective study was considered. All patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus who received care at a 4th level institution during the period from April 2016 to April 2017 will be selected. From the clinical records of each patient, the following will be identified: Diagnosis of depression and glycosylated hemoglobin data during that period; If there are several measurements of glycosylated hemoglobin, the highest value will be selected. Results: The accomplishment of this study will allow obtaining information that will allow to determine the frequency of diabetes mellitus type 2 according to age, gender, diagnosis of depression, comorbidities and type of treatment used in the study population. Conclusions: This is the first comprehensive approach to the problem of these events in Colombia. It is necessary to implement this study and to determine the statistical association between depression and metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a 4th level hospital in Barranquilla.
