The aim of this research project is to develop the placement test specifications to evaluate the writing ability in the initial levels of the Centro Javeriano de Lenguas of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Moreover, there are proposed two task examples with the aim of showing the specifications proposal on the practice. This research derives from the necessity of redesigning and updating the Centro Javeriano de Lenguas writing placement test. In order to contribute to the reformulation of this test, it is carried out a qualitative applied-practical research. In the first part, it is described the current exam and the way it is structured. Then, there are addressed the theoretical concepts that result to be useful for the development of this research, such as the concept of writing, assessment, the distinction among measurement, test, and assessment, writing and assessment in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), theory of specifications, product validity. Regarding to the methodological framework, it is developed following Bordon s model (2006). There are allocated the purpose of the exam, the construct, tasks, and assessment criteria specifications, the product validation, and the results analysis. Finally, it is made known the conclusions of this research project, its limitations and recommendations.
