In the decision-making process when determining the foreign policy of the countries, it is possible to identify external variables, internal variables and define the decision unit, likewise, the similarities, differences and interrelationships among these variables are studied. In this context, this document is aimed at establishing the influence of internal variables: political regimes, economic development strategies, and decisionmaking in economic foreign policy, in countries that have moved from an authoritarian regime to a Democratic regime, using the comparative foreign policy methodology between two countries: Brazil (1979-1994) and Chile (1985-2000).
