To understand the perceptions of people with hypertension or diabetes about their experience in an educational nursing intervention to improve adherence to the therapeutic regimen developed in 2016. Methods: comprehensive research that used qualitative collection and analysis methods. A total of 14 people participated according to the saturation of the categories; this was selected through extreme cases and convenience to obtain diversity in the information; the collection was through semi-structured interviews. From the 14 people, homogeneous selection was made to conform 2 discussion groups; both interviews were recorded in audio, after application of informed consent; the transcription was performed with the speech recognition software DRAGON 11. The sociodemographic characterization was performed in Excel, and for the case of continuous variables the SPSS was used. The analysis was carried out by open and axial coding in which the constant comparison of texts, color technique and classification by subject was used; In the selective coding the information was interpreted contrasting the findings with the literature. Results: the categories emerged from the participants' perceptions; components that contribute to the meaning of experience, transforming the knowledge, the way to change, care as a relationship with the other and helping to build educational programs. The educational intervention favored meaningful learning, motivated the execution of health promoting behaviors and fostered a relationship with the nurse, based on good treatment and in which they were considered as the care center. Conclusions: Although the intervention generated positive results; aspects such as forgetting certain knowledge or medications, the presence of behaviors rooted in the culture and changes in routine; require a greater study, follow-up and an interdisciplinary work, that guarantees the continuity of the care and the resolution of these difficulties.
