Globally overweight in children has increased over the years because of multiple factors that have been of research interest in recent years. The aim of this study was to identify socioeconomic, family, neonatal and food factors, associated with overweight in preschool children. Analytical study of the cases and controls are presented as following, 42 preschool children from Centro de Desarrollo Infantil Las Arenitas , average age 3 years 5 months with a deviation of 1 year 3 months, ranging from 2 to 5 years old with overweight (n=21) and an appropriate weight for height (n=21). Through direct interviewing the parents, it was inquired about neonatal, family, socioeconomic, and feeding background through consumption frequency. The results show that there is a connection between milk formula consumption before the first year of age and overweight symptoms, regarding the family background it was found a significantly relation between being only child or the youngest child and the development of overweight, and it was identified positive association between the consumption of milk modifiers based on cocoa and the overweight. There were not found significantly differences with the low socioeconomic and educational level of the parents to develop overweight in the kids, it is remarkable that the consumption of fruits and vegetables is low in preschool children, being this a characteristic behavior of the Colombian population in the last 5 years.
