In Quinini Reserve, located in the Eastern Andes of Colombia, orchid species were inventoried by sampling three sectors located between1600-2000 m altitude. Twenty seven species (27) of orchids were identified. The predominant genera were: Epidendrum, Pleurothallis and Elleanthus. To determine their potential usage, a bioprospecting matrix was disigned with 12 attributes. Oncidium boothianum Rchb.f., Prosthechea sceptra (Lindl.) W.E. Higgins, Epidendrum acuminatum Ruiz & Pav. y Cattleya trianae Linden & Rchb. f., had higher use options. The information obtained in this study provides a basis to guide local communities to development strategies for the preservation, conservation and sustainable use of the flora, especially orchids, at the reserve.
