Writing in the foreign language should be an active process for students, but it is usually neglected in the EFL classroom due to time constraints. Teachers can give writing the place it deserves in the classroom by flipping it and by implementing different technologies for the appropriate development of writing workshops. Flipping engages students by creating a student-centered atmosphere, promoting peer and self-reflection, enhancing students’ autonomy and involving students in a constructive process of production. Flipped learning is a relatively innovative concept that has proven effective in multiple contexts including EFL. When flipping, Bloom’s Low-Order Thinking Skills (understanding and remembering) are carried out by students in their individual learning space, while High-Order Thinking Skills (applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating) are worked in the group learning space with the guidance of the teacher. Flipped writing workshops facilitate these processes for teachers and students alike. Attendees to this session will reflect on the writing process they already carry out at their own contexts and will think of the best way to flip it to maximize their students’ learning and optimize their writing results. For that purpose, during the workshop, teachers will face the challenge of planning their own flipped writing workshop by means of doing hands-on activities based on the principles of flipped learning and an inverted Bloom’s taxonomy and will explore some apps and technological tools they can seamlessly include in their writing lesson plans after the session. Prior to the session, the participants are encouraged to experience flipped learning by watching a video ( http://bit.ly/TESOLColombia ) and by coming ready ready to apply the concepts in a real-life scenario for teachers: lesson planning.
