Para realizar el inventario e identificacion del componente arboreo del Politecnico Colombiano Jaime Isaza Cadavid, Institucion Universitaria ubicada en el municipio de Medellin-Colombia, se emplearon entre otras herramientas Sistemas de Informacion Geografica (SIG), que permitieron identificar la posicion global e inventariar los individuos que componen el sistema arboreo con que cuenta la sede el poblado. Una vez georeferenciados se ubicaron en un plano cartografico, efectuando un registro fotografico individual, recolectando e identificando los materiales colectados. El SIG del Politecnico Colombiano Jaime Isaza Cadavid, el numero de individuos inventariados y las especies identificadas, se constituyen para la institucion en una herramienta e informacion valiosa que permite al personal encargado de la siembra, reposicion de material y manejo de las zonas verdes, tener acceso facil y agil de la informacion consolidada y realizar la programacion de las actividades de mantenimiento requeridas, de acuerdo al plan de manejo sugerido ABSTRACT To carry out the inventory and identification of the arboreal component of the Colombian Polytechnic Jaime Isaza Cadavid, a university institution in the municipality of Medellin – Colombia, tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used, which facilitated global positioning and an inventory of the trees that make up the arboreal system of “El Poblado” facilities. Once geo-referenced, the trees were plotted on a map and each one was photographed to create an individual photographic register of the materials that were gathered and indentified. The Jaime Isaza Cadavid Colombian Polytechnic’s GIS system, the number of trees in the inventory and the species that were identified constitute a tool and is valuable information for the institution that allows the personnel charged with planting, material replacement and green zone management to have easy and quick access to the consolidated information and to plan the necessary maintenance activities, in accordance with the suggested management plan.
