Recibir formacion a nivel de doctorado en Enfermeria, permite adquirir elementos que favorecen adoptar una postura critica, sobre la construccion, evolucion y evaluacion de la teoria. Este articulo presenta la forma como ha evolucionado el componente disciplinar de Enfermeria. Para hacer la reflexion se parte de un comentario formulado por J. Fawcett (2003) acerca de la importancia que tiene tanto el conocimiento de la disciplina de enfermeria, como el necesario para realizar actividades tales como el bano en cama. Se hace luego una revision sobre las diferentes clases de modelos y teorias desde su aplicabilidad. La enfermeria ha sido reconocida por la sociedad, y en su proceso de desarrollo disciplinar, ha tenido que mostrar que tiene un dominio propio, cuenta con una estructura sintactica y conceptual especifica, se expresa con un lenguaje y simbolos especializados, recoge la herencia de la literatura y la tradicion, tiene redes de comunicacion, reconoce valores y creencias y refuerza la educacion mediante sistemas que le son propios. Por ultimo se resalta la importancia de la practica y de la investigacion derivada de la misma, para el aporte que se le pueda dar al desarrollo disciplinar de la enfermeria Palabras clave: Teoria, enfermeria. Abstract Doctoral education in nursing enables the professional to acquire essentials that allows him/her to assume a critical attitude on the construction, evolution and evaluation of the theory. This paper presents the way how the disciplinary component of Nursing has evolved. To set up the reflection, a commentary by J. Fawcett (2003) is presented. The commentary is about the importance of knowledge both on the nursing discipline as well as on the necessary fundamentals to carry out activities such as bathing in bed. Next, a review on the different kinds of theories, from the point of view of its applicability, isdone. Nursing has been acknowledged by society. During the process of its disciplinary development it has had to demonstrate that it owns a separate domain, it has a specific syntactical and conceptual structure, it expresses itself with specialized language and symbols, it collects the heritage of literature and tradition, it has communication networks, it recognizes moral values and beliefs, and it reinforces education through systems which belong exclusively to it. Finally, the importance of practice –and the research derived from it, to the disciplinary development of nursing, is highlighted. Keywords: Theory, nursing.
