This work reflects about the teaching of history in school, from the category of war. In the first place, the work shows a historiographic balance on war as a concept constructed from some places of enunciation of mythology, literature and history, and on recent research on the teaching of history in secondary school. Subsequently, the work presents a pedagogical proposal based on Meaningful Learning, Constructivism, Project based Learning, the promotion of Creativity and Teaching for understanding. Then, the paper links the proposal with a Progressive exercise based on the Method of Structural Analysis from linguistics as a tool for conceptual analysis of war and, finally, the paper presents a series of reflections about the relationship between teacher and student, as well as on the role played by the historian in his dual role as researcher and professor of the chair of social Sciences and / or history in the construction of historical thought in school.
