This paper focuses on the analysis of the incidence of politico-military relations between Colombia and the United States for the restructuring of national security and defense policies from 1998 to 2010. For the development of the research problem, the thesis is carried out with the qualitative method and a theoretical framework is constructed that allows to analyze the subject from the neorealism as a theory that allows us the analysis of the interests that promote the cooperation directed to the increase of the Colombian political-military capabilities to counter threats and use the concept of asymmetric warfare as within the dynamics of the conflict are presented new scenarios of military confrontation. After this, an analysis is made of the historical background of Colombian-American political-military relations and interests that led to the implementation of Plan Colombia and the decision to restructure Colombia's National Security and Defense Policies, these decisions framed in La Nueva Security Strategy that the United States has raised with respect to the Colombian threats. Third, through a comparative analysis, based on five variables, the specific changes of the National Security and Defense Policies are examined, a chapter that leads directly to the following observation of how these changes generated changes in the Colombian scenario, in The attempt to counteract the threats generated by the armed conflict. This analysis, in the end, creates a reflection of the effects that these changes have generated in the context of the Colombian armed conflict.
