The aim of this work was to analyze the strategic planning of human resources from the senior management of the companies in consumer goods in Valledupar, Colombia. Methodologically, it was a descriptive study with non-experimental, cross-cutting and design field. The population was constituted by 121 people including managers and employees, under census. The instrument consisted of 45 items, with five choices of responses whose reliability was obtained through the Cronbach Alpha formula, yielding a value of 0.981, being highly reliable for their application. The descriptive and inferential statistics was used for the analysis of the data, demonstrating that in the high management of consumer companies, not planned systematically and consistently management under strategic schemes that lead to potential development of human resources, which may be impacting on organizational progress of them.
