RESUMO : Este artigo tem como metodo de estudo fontes bibliograficas, com o intuito de apresentar os aspectos historicos do capitalismo e como exercem dominio nas pessoas, estabelecendo a correlacao entre o consumismo a necessidade do individuo em dar simbologia na sua existencia, atraves da compulsao por compras, discorrendo sobre a psicopatologia do Transtorno Obsessivo-Compulsivo (TOC), suas comorbidades, a dependencia psicologica no ato de consumir desnecessario e incontrolavelmente, afetando-o em todos os aspectos e sentidos, desde acumular a endividar-se e o isolamento social e familiar.
