Purpose: the purpose of this study is to describe the ideas and feelings of the geriatric residents living in a skilled nursing facility in the city of Barrancabermeja. Method: a study was performed involving a group of 8 geriatric residents living in a skilled nursing facility in Barrancabermeja. An interview was conducted with each of the 8 residents. a deep semi-structured interview was the tool utilized to collect data. Results: once the data and criteria were analyzed, a thorough review was performed and the final categories were created. These categories are as follows: feelings of elder people in regards to living in a skilled nursing facility: I feel fine. I am bored. Thoughts of the geriatric residents in regards to living in a skilled nursing facility: i think this is a good place to live. feelings regarding the care received in the skilled nursing facility: i am happy with the care received in this home. I feel that I am not alone any longer, and if something happens to me, somebody will take care of me. I am sad. To me, living in this home is like I am living in my own home. Thoughts regarding the care received in the skilled nursing facility: we receive good care. it seems to me like life is giving us an award. i am feeling better. Meaning of the care given to the geriatric residents: they care about me. There s a concern about me. Personnel assigned to take care of the geriatric residents: the medical staff and ancillary staff are a team. Conclusions: a majority of the geriatric residents expressed not only their positive feelings, but also their positive thoughts related to living in a skilled nursing facility. The residents feel like they receive good care. Most of them state that receive good care and that the medical and ancillary staff are really involved and devoted to giving skilled care and watching out for their well-being.
