This work analyzes the bilateral relations between Colombia and Venezuela between 2005 and 2015 though a review of the border closures implemented by both countries. The study is centered around the work of Stephen Krasner in his book sovereignty, organized hypocrisy (2001), which provided a method to assist in recognizing which of the tensions between the countries which occurred in this period were real and which were generated by interests held by the respective governments of the time. The work also include a full historic context of the moments of greatest cooperation and highest levels of tension from the moment of separation of Gran Colombia onwards, to understand properly the main influencing factors in the relationship of these close neighbors.
