The thesis defended this research is that the educational proposal of Martha Nussbaum is supported in his theory of emotions. The author, from the definition of the cognitive content of these emotions: Disgust and shame, makes an assessment of their role in public life, which is composed of human interactions in the family, then at school and finally in social spaces. These spaces are mediated by our biological condition, culture and education. These mediations will be reflected in the political life of democratic nations. One of the arguments defending this papper is that Nussbaum in several of his works performs a validation of what at one time considered non- rational philosophy: emotions. This relationship between emotions and social relations the importance of understanding the role of education of moral sentiments in democratic States is derived. This paper analyzes the educational proposal of Nussbaum and his defense of liberal education in support of democracy. Finally it seeks to contrast the proposed educational Nussbaum with our Colombian context analysis in the field of education at the school and university level maklng a reflection on how are you emotions are reflected in the political life of our country.
