Identify the thoughts, perceptions and behaviors related to the complications of the Diabetes Mellitus type 2 by the elderly population. A qualitative health investigation was performed with 8 elderly persons through the saturation technique, the information was gathered using individual and professional interviews in order to understand the thoughts, perceptions and behaviors. Results:The 8 interviews were transcribed, each one has 16 to 25 minutes length and each transcription is 90 to 120 minutes length. The recordings were replied several times to get all the details and to avoid skip any important information of the objectives. Based on the objectives the information was selected and for each objective a category was determined according to the analysis units obtained from the answers of the patients. To determine the analysis units the objectives were checked again and the principal concepts were extracted to identify and compare them with the answers of the patients, those three concepts were: thoughts, perceptions and behaviors. Conclusions: The elderly people are conscious of the negative or positive influence coming from the feeding in order to avoid the complications and also they have negative thoughts about certain type of food. They consider those foods dangerous based on previous experiences. The thoughts and the perceptions allow distinguish the influence that they have.
