In times of Rio+20 all segments of society question themselves about their responsibilities to Sustainable Development and, as it should be, organizations, in particular, always eager to remain competitive in the globalized market seek social-environmentally correct alternatives to such. That said, this article aims to counterpose the points addressed in the Rio+20 event and the importance of adopting an Integrated Management System (IMS), for example based on the methodology proposed by Waclawovsky and Batiz, which aims to provide organizations with a tool that allows for a systemic vision and assists them in achieving sustainable results. Therefore, a qualitative applied method research was carried out with bibliographic technical procedures as well as an action and participative research, through which an assessment was conducted of the main topics discussed in Rio+20, in order to draw a parallel between them and the expected results by implementing this methodology, using for this purpose a comparative analysis of the advantages of implementing an IMS based on the concepts asserted by the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) through which it was possible to prove that IMS implementation can be an important source of a social-environmentally correct competitive advantage, crucial to generating value for shareholders and for the Sustainable Development of the human habitat
