The present graduation project identifies what types of higher education institution (private/public) supports the most to the academic achievement, being measured by the result of the state exams SABER PRO. The 233 institutions that holds the 94.752 students of university programs that presented the generic test in the second quarter of 2011, were evaluated in four areas: Critical Reading, Written Communication, Quantitative Reasoning and English. The results were estimated using multilevel models which are used in literature to evaluate education institutions, because they distinguish the effect of each of the groups (level: institution and students) of independent variables above the dependent variable. Once the results of the models are checked, it was observed that the higher education institution explains, the academic achievement of the student depending on the test that was analyzed. So: for the Critical Reading Test the institution explains the 18% of the reached score, for the Written Communication Test the institution explains the 9% of the reached score, for the Quantitative Reasoning Test the institution explains the 19% of the reached score and for the English test the institution explains the 30% of the reached score.
