This research develops a comparative analysis of Colombian legislation on environmental insurance contrasted with the laws of the largest economies in Latin America (IMF, 2015): Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. also intends to carry out a compilation of the portfolio of commercial products offered by different insurance companies in these countries which subsequently shall be compared in terms of their coverage, exclusions and coating system for a period of occurrence of the event and thus pose a general recommendations for the Colombian insurance companies on the relevance of extending its business portfolio including environmental insurance. It was conducted by reviewing government secondary literature sources and specialized entities abordandose different categories that allow analyze environmental insurance or what is the same, the policies of environmental responsibility: if the legislation of each of the countries surveyed states or not compulsory environmental or ecological insurance, and if so the rules will be identified and established to what economic activities or when it applies.
