Environmental management emerges as the proper instrument for assisting the settlement of several environmental problems originated in human activity. It refers to the type of interactions between society and nature that have become distorted, altering the flow of material, energy and data and affecting the sustainability of life in all its forms. In Colombia environmental management is rarely challenged in terms of addressing the correction of distortions and environmental impacts related to internal armed conflict, where other variables operate, determined by military strategies of those who are involved in the confrontation. The convergence of these war strategies has caused cultural and ecosystemic diversity to become the victim of the above mentioned inner conflict. Likewise, it has made intervention in environmental management more complex as it faces dynamics aimed at reappraising its rational, instrumental and intervention processes in order to adjust to the requirements of the circumstances of the country. In this very context some challenges are proposed within the frame of environmental management which will hopefully contribute to the transition of positive peace in Colombia as an ethical responsibility inherent to this discipline. This paper is also intended as a reflection to stimulate other areas of knowledge to become part of this marvelous opportunity of joining efforts aimed at accomplishing the dream of a reconciled nation, with political inclusion, economic equity and social and environmental justice.
