The current study was created in wake of the authors‘ desire to describe the development of the instrumental subcompetence in translation students before and after training them, following the use of online terminographic resources when translating a specialized brief, as software localization. The study was located within the qualitative approach (using techniques as the retrospective interview and screen recording) to obtain data directly from the student body and their behavior in the web. Also quantitative techniques were employed for the descriptive statistical treatment of the data obtained through the brief. The results emphasized the importance of making students develop their ability to use the web as a strategic tool for documentation and problem-solving in translation.
