The poor results of standardized language tests in 3rd and 5th grade in public and private institutions in the town of Pereira, question teachers and school administrators about the situations that develop in the classroom. Therefore, this investigation was performed in order to interpret what are the conceptions of teaching of written language (understood as implicit theories) of the teachers of the first cycle of basic education, and establishing the similarities and differences between a rural public institution and other urban and private. Methodologically, the discourses and practices of teachers were analyzed through the use of semi -structured interviews, work proposals for other teachers and students and classroom observations. Then, confront the findings with the categories of the framework , it was concluded that teachers frame their work in the conceptions of teaching that have been built as a result of his experience as users, processes, training and education , considering the written language as an instrument susceptible to communication and to be taught in the schools.
