This paper compares the four profiles established in Venezuela and the five profiles formulated in Colombia for training information professionals. The methodology consisted in comparing the aforementioned profiles, using relational matrices as an instrument, registering information on the profiles of a same country, as well as matrices to relate the skills outlined by the schools and programs from both countries. The results highlight a bet on a training that focuses not only on the development of technical and vocational skills, but also transversal competences aimed at a comprehensive training, emphasizing the cultivation of ethical values, which brings a humanistic, scientific and social character to the curriculum provided by the schools and programs training information professionals in Venezuela and Colombia. As a conclusion, the need to change to comprehensive profiles is determined, in order to move towards processes of academic cooperation between the two countries.
