The treatment of epilepsy has great impact on the quality of life and survival of pediatric patients. The Hospital Universitario San Ignacio (HUSI) features human and technical resources to develop epilepsy surgery, which is an effective alternative for refractory epilepsy. Methods: A review of literature on the surgical treatment of epilepsy was performed. Subsequently, a descriptive study of 34 cases of epilepsy surgery in HUSI (January 2010-March 2014) was performed. Results: Patients were on average with 2.9 anticonvulsants. 12 of 34 patients had temporal lobe epilepsy, the most common surgical procedure was temporal lobectomy (10/34). 6 of 34 patients had minor complications. 19/34 were classified as Engel class I postoperatively. Conclusions: Surgery is an alternative for the treatment of epilepsy that offers less seizures and even remission.
