Evaluación del efecto neuroprotector de los extractos metanólicos de acalypha diversifolia y alchornea calophylla euphorbiaceae contra la toxicidad inducida por rotenona en drosophila melanogaster drosophilidae
Neuroprotective are chemical or biological substances with protective effects on the nervous system to prevent, mitigate or delay the neurodegenerative processes. These compounds prevent death or degeneration of neurons. This research deals with the study of antioxidant and neuroprotective properties of methanolic extracts of Acalypha diversifolia and Alchornea calophylla using a xenobiotic agent called rotenone also used an experimental model in vivo called Drosophila melanogaster. The results showed that the methanolic extracts have an antioxidant effect capable of inhibiting the locomotor impairment in Drosophila melanogaster generated when this is exposed to 1000uM in rotenone concentrations. Greater inhibitory was evident when Acalypha diversifolia extract was used in the co-treatment of flies exposed to rotenone. The locomotor activity of Drosophila melanogaster during the investigation was studied by testing negative geotaxis, which exploits the innate ability to escape, which flies ascend the wall of a container after being deposited on the bottom of this. This study locomotor assay proved to be a reproducible technical that can be set as a reliable method for monitoring motor impairment and aging in Drosophila melanogaster. Furthermore Drosophila melanogaster was established as an in vivo useful study model because it has features of being an organism who is being able to raised under conditions readily avaliable and low cost, on the other hand Drosophila lend itself to conducting any biochemical evaluations, which generate more complete and detailed studies on the neuroprotective properties of phytochemicals that are constantly extracted from plants belonging to the Colombian flora.
